Why Bamboo?

Boost LEED credits with Bamboo veneer.

Bamboo is the fastest growing woody plant on the planet. It grows one-third faster than the fastest growing tree—as much as four feet a day. Chop it down and it’ll grow right back. Fast. With no need to replant, bamboo can completely regenerate itself in three to six years (compare that to 10-100 years for most hard and softwoods). All this adds up to an abundantly plentiful, rapidly renewable resource that’s both affordable and green—and that contributes to LEED MR Credit 6 for rapidly renewable materials.

Technically a grass,* bamboo veneer is produced by cutting the relatively small diameter stalks into strips, which are pressed together in a block. The veneer is sliced in sheets off the block and then laid up on a backer—winning it eco bonus points because there’s no loss in yield. It’s already laid up in standard-sized sheets, so your purchase is 100% usable, no trimming, and no loss.

*It’s greener than green, but don’t look for FSC-certified bamboo veneer—because it’s a grass, it isn’t considered a forest product.
