Love that Patina

Like fine wine, wood grows warmer, darker, and richer with age. That’s why matching new veneer to old can be a serious design challenge. Most newly finished wood begins to darken in about six months and will continue to darken for as long as eight years. And the rate and amount it darkens varies by specie. With that in mind, if you want to match a mature patina, you need to know the maturation tendency of the species and finish your new wood from one to several shades lighter. While it might not look like a match at first, as it matures over time, the wood will darken to match to older material. Don’t know how light or dark to go? We can help. Tell us when your project involves matching existing wood, and we’ll help you select a veneer and finish that will give you a match that will last through time.
